Many sensitive or difficult issues often require an independent investigation. These can be either disciplinary allegations or grievances within the workplace. An independent view is usually required when the organisation does not have the resources, or perhaps managers are themselves mentioned in the allegations and are thus unable to carry out the investigation. In some cases it may be that the allegation is of such a serious nature it requires external advice.
